چکیده

Stevenson, Bedford, Dolphin, Purrott, Lloyd, Hill, Hill, Gumpel, Williams, Scott, Ramsey, Bruckner, and Fearn (1973) reported that high chromosome aberration yields in lymphocytes were found in those patients treated with injections of 198Au or 90Y for rheumatoid conditions ofthe knee when radioactivity had leaked along the lymphatics to the inguinal lymph nodes. This leakage and the consequent high doses to the regional lymph nodes had been observed and reported earlier by Virkkunen, Krusius, and Heiskanen (1967). More recently de la Chapelle, Rekonen, and Ruotsi (1972) have shown that the leakage and the chromosome aberration yield can be reduced by immobilization of the patients after injection. The purpose ofthis paper is to discuss the biological significance of the chromosome aberrations observed in lymphocytes and the significance of the radiation dose to body tissues in the patients treated with '98Au or 90Y as reported in the study by Stevenson and others (1973).

A review on combined biological effects of microwave and other physical or chemical agents

With the development of science and technology, microwave has been used in many fields such as industry, military, medicine and communication. People are living in a lapped and dynamic electromagnetic environment. Concerns about potential hazards of microwave are getting increasing attentions. The single biological effects of microwave were widely discussed which was considered harmful. Relevan...

Assessment of indoor cancer linked to accumulated radiation dose from different types of television sets in dwellings

Exposure to radiation from different types of television sets was measured to ascertain the levels of hazards posed to the human biological system. Measurement of the annual radiation dose hazards was performed using a halogen-quenched GM tube with thin mica end window having a density of 1.5 mg/cm2, effective window diameter of 0.360 inch and side wall of 0.012 inch thick. The GM tube was plac...

A Novel Biological Dosimetry Method for Monitoring Occupational Radiation Exposure in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Wards: From Radiation Dosimetry to Biological Effects

Background and Objective: Professional radiation workers are occupationally exposed to long-term low levels of ionizing radiation. Occupational health hazards from radiation exposure, in a large occupational segment of the population, are of special concern. Biological dosimetry can be performed in addition to physical dosimetry with the aim of individual dose assessment and biological effects....

Uncertainties in radiation sciences: The need for more researches and publications. Experience of 10 years publications in this field and our new plans

Three nearly simultaneous events around the end of the 19th century, i.e., the discovery of X‐rays by Roentgen in 1895, natural radioactivity by Antoine‐Henri Becquerel in 1896 and isolation of Radium by the Curies' in 1898 opened the nuclear era which has changed broadly the worlds of physics, biology and medicine. At the close of the 20th century, fundamental discoveries in biology at molecul...
